PBC men fall in line for head race season

September 24, 2011 by · Comments Off

Yep. Fall is here. After an insanely successful summer, PBC’s Men’s Sweep Team is gearing up for this weekend’s Scullers Head of the Potomac (SHOP), as well as another successful head race season. This may be the best fall for the men in a long time … but they usually do pretty well, right, PBC?!

Below are a few photos taken during yesterday’s deary, drizzly morning practice.  Apologies for the fuzzy ones (photos, that is). We weren’t expecting it to be so dark for so long already!

See you at the SHOP on Sunday!

Late winter rowing photos

February 20, 2011 by · Comments Off

Senior Member Mike McGuirk was kind enough to share the beautiful photos below with us.

The photos were taken by Dr. Alec Chester, M.D., who was on shore playing with his new Canon EOS Rebel T2i when a crew from Potomac Boat Club rowed into view. When he got home, he zoomed in to read the name of the boat. He saw it was the Paul Knight, and realized … he knows Paul! After an exchange of email messages, Dr. Chester sent Paul the photos he had taken that day. Lucky us!

In the boat (bow to stern) was Paul Knight, Mike McGuirk, Chip Magid, and Erik Meyers.

Thanks so much to Mike and Dr. Chester for sharing with us.

Fancy-schmancy PBC notecards support our Open Scullers. Get ‘em while they’re hot!

December 20, 2010 by · Comments Off

(They’ll be the only thing hot around the boathouse for awhile.)

Social Committee chair and part-time greeting card creator Susan Trice recently produced beautiful notecards with photos of Potomac Boat Club to sell in support of our Open Sculling Program, and aren’t you a lucky duck?! There are still a few packs left!

Cards with envelopes are offered in packs of six with your choice of one of three cover images: Flat Water, Through the Bridge, or Four Oar Rule. They measure 4.25” x 5.5” or 5.5” x 4.25” (depending on orientation) and are blank inside.

The cards were a huge hit at the Holiday Party (raising almost $1200!), so we recommend you grab an armload before they run out! Best of all, when you do, you’ll support our Open Sculling Program with another tax deductible donation. (Find details on how to snag yours following the images below.)

      Float Repair Day Photos

Chuck Selden surfaces with lunch for the work crew.

Who says watching paint dry isn’t fun?

Okay, so we didn’t paint the dock or watch it dry yesterday, but we did watch Chuck Selden and Cal Sutliff get the float repairs done, and that was fun.  Or at least interesting.

Check out the photos from Float Repair Day 2009 below.  Chuck Selden and Cal Sutliff went below deck. Mike Silveus, Mike Malone, Bob Price, Jim Hatch and Owen Lewis stayed topside to provide back up support.

If you’re interested in volunteering for Paint the Dock Day 2009 (Saturday, September 12), look for messages via the members’ Yahoo Group from House Committee chair, Mike Silveus.
